Where Respawn Esports is right now.
Respawn Esports is not incorporated yet. We are not a legal entity at this point. We are a founding team working together to discover, build, and validate what we believe could become the company.
The plan is simple: find the right thing to build, build it, validate it, and incorporate when we are ready to take it to market.
What you are being offered.
This is not a conventional salaried role.
You will not receive a regular salary in exchange for certainty.
Instead, you are being offered 20% equity with a 1-year cliff.
Complete 12 months, and the full 20% vests immediately. Leave or are terminated before 12 months, and you walk away with nothing.
After that, you receive another 30% equity, vesting gradually over the following 5 years.
Stay through the full vesting period and, if everything goes as intended, the intended structure would give you 50% of the company's equity after roughly 6 years.
The vesting is time-based, not performance-based.
Because Respawn is not incorporated yet.
The equity above is the ownership structure we intend to establish when Respawn Esports is incorporated.
Before you join the founding team, the terms will be documented in a written agreement and electronically signed by both sides. That agreement will set out the applicable equity structure, vesting terms, role, rights, obligations, and other relevant conditions.
Now the interesting part.
We genuinely don't know yet what we're going to build.
For the first 4–6 weeks, we will operate in full R&D mode.
We can stretch that to 8–12 weeks at the absolute maximum, but not beyond that.
The objective is not to produce something for the sake of producing something. It is to explore aggressively.
Build. Test. Break things. Follow curiosity. Kill bad ideas quickly. Chase promising ones harder.
And find the thing we believe is worth going all in on.
If we find and validate that thing in week three, we do not wait until week twelve because a calendar told us to.
We switch into execution. We build it seriously.
There is real risk here.
You could put your time into this for 6–8 weeks and we could still come out of R&D without finding the thing we believe is worth going all in on.
If that happens, the founding team may dissolve.
I'm not going to hide that from you.
But the opposite is also true.
We might
fucking fly.
If we get this right.
We might find something with enough potential to dominate a market, take a serious share of an industry, and build something much larger than any of us expected.
That is why I am not telling you to leave your current job. You are taking a real risk by joining this.
There is no regular salary waiting on the other side of a guaranteed roadmap.
What we are trying to build instead is ownership — and assets around us that, if we get this right, could become worth far more than what any of us could earn through a conventional job over the next decade.
So yes: this is a fly-or-bye situation.
Some people will take that risk. Some won't. Neither choice is wrong.
Why the uncertainty exists.
We are living in a strange moment where building things has become incredibly accessible.
We can explore faster than ever. We can build faster than ever. We can test faster than ever.
But that does not mean we should build something.
We should build something fucking great.
And honestly, for the first time in my life, I genuinely don't know what we're going to work on yet.
A little shameful for me 😂.
So I'll borrow Steve Jobs to defend myself
"It doesn't make sense to team up with smart people and tell them what to do. We team up with smart people so they can tell us what to do."
I cannot give you a perfectly defined roadmap today.
I cannot tell you exactly what we will be executing next week.
Because we haven't discovered it yet.
And maybe that's exactly why the right people should be here.
I don't want people here just to execute my ideas.
I want people who are willing to explore, question, build, destroy, rethink, and discover with me.
There will be moments when nobody has the answer. You will sometimes have to make the call before certainty arrives — and then help the people around you move with it.
That is part of the role.
If you can become comfortable with uncertainty — and more importantly, excited by what might exist inside it — let's talk.
